Here We Stand
For this trailer, I wanted to create an atmosphere that carried the weight and beauty of a defining historical and spiritual moment. The visual direction draws from the materials and textures of the Reformation era—candlelight, ink on paper, stone walls, worn wood. These elements allowed the podcast to feel anchored to its sources rather than merely inspired by them.
My focus was to craft a symbolic environment that invites curiosity rather than tries to impress. Working almost entirely with natural light, the main challenge was coordinating materials and illumination in a way that felt genuine and unforced. Each choice had to support the quiet authority of the content, especially with John Piper’s voice giving the project its center of gravity.
My role here was that of a curator of atmosphere as much as a director: shaping a coherent visual language, ensuring the tone remained contemplative, and guiding the aesthetic so it could serve the message rather than overshadow it. The result is a slow, reflective teaser that prepares the viewer for a podcast rooted in theological depth while remaining accessible to anyone drawn to its themes.
