Am I Your Child?

Am I Your Child follows Fali’s discovery, as a teenager in Madagascar, that he was adopted. This news places him in sharp tension with a culture where identity is deeply rooted in lineage.

To tell this story, I relied intentionally on actuality. I wanted the viewer to walk with Fali rather than observe him from a distance, experiencing his questions, his pauses, and the subtle shifts in his understanding as they happen. The documentary is not a collage of images but a journey that unfolds in real time, shaped by the emotional rhythm of Fali’s search for belonging.

Visually, the narrative is anchored in photographs. Some are fragments from Fali’s childhood, others are images he chooses to capture himself, moments, textures, and places that reflect what lineage means to him now. These images act as touchstones, not as nostalgia, but as markers of a story still in formation.

The connection to the client Desiring God appears when Fali reads Astonished by God and discovers an identity rooted not in ancestry but in being adopted by God. This aligns with the ministry’s mission to show how grace reframes ordinary lives. The film lets that discovery emerge through Fali’s own words and moments. My role was to shape a visual structure that allowed his transformation to speak for itself, holding both the weight of his crisis and the quiet hope that follows.
