Character-Driven Documentary

Abuse, Drugs, and Ultimate Joy

This short film tells Justin’s journey out of addiction through a carefully shaped visual and emotional arc. I approached the story by contrasting artificial light with lived reality, using the pinball machine as a subtle symbol of the false comfort that once pulled him in. From there, the narrative shifts into honest, grounded moments that allowed Justin to speak about his past without glamorizing it.

My role was to guide the storytelling so the viewer could feel both the weight of his former life and the quiet joy that follows. The biggest challenge was holding the tension between raw truth and respectful restraint, choosing locations and images that supported the emotion without overstating it. The film ultimately aims to highlight how a transformed life can speak for itself when the visuals and structure simply make space for it.
